Literal translation:

Get one life out of nine deaths

Meaning:

Avoid death by a hairbreadth

Have a hairbreadth escape 

Survive by a hair

Example:

彼の家は地震で崩壊したが、彼は九死に一生を得た。

His house collapsed due to an earthquake, but he survived by a hair.
